Several areas of Alberta are experiencing drought conditions and multiple management areas are impacted by water shortage. Various groups and individuals in Alberta, including water-users and those who have a role in water management, are taking action to address drought conditions.
At their October 2023 meeting, the AWC board received an update on current and predicted drought conditions, ongoing and planned management actions, and challenges being faced. Given its structure as a trusted network of stakeholders with a broad range of expertise, experience, interest, and knowledge, and with recent institutional knowledge gained from recent drought-related projects, the AWC established this committee to support communication, collaboration, and coordination on drought mitigation efforts and messaging between water-users, decision-makers, interested and impacted Albertans, and groups involved in the various aspects of water management.
